China’s Communist Party is trying to do a better job of engaging younger
generations through efforts like rap songs and comics. Now, stickers have been implemented to fight against corruption.
Yesterday, China published a set of stickers free to download on WeChat, the country’s most popular chat app.
The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) released a total of 16 animated GIFs with slogans on fighting corruption.
The stickers are a way to “narrow the distance between internet users and the CCDI,” said the body in a statement.
The stickers are straightforward: One of them shows the two Chinese characters for the word “privilege” crushed by a fist from above. Another depicts a golf club with the Chinese word for “banned” over it, as Chinese officials are now essentially banned from playing the sport.
However, many Chinese internet users haven't enjoyed the stickers due to finding the stickers difficult to use in daily conversations. Additionally, some users may feel that the designs are a bit dated.
At this point, it's difficult to see if the stickers will become popular or not, but they are readily available to download and use. Users can add these stickers by going to the "Stickery Gallery" option within WeChat.
